Matthew’s band competition

March 08, 2008 By: Mark Category: Can't be categorized

Matthew plays percussion in his middle school band. Every year, they have a band competition they call a ‘band festival’ It’s sponsored by the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.
I guess there are certain sections of the state that compete toward the finals.
For the section he’s in, they hold it out in Port Huron with only six schools competing.

We had to get here at 9:30AM and his class is scheduled for 1:35PM, so I have some time to kill doing work and writing this.

They didn’t do as well as last year overall but they sounded pretty good.
I think they really did great on the sight reading section. They are given two pices of music, never seen before, and have five minutes to prepare with the teacher and then play the part.

Guitarist Jeff Healy passed away.

Jeff Healy passed away March 2, 2008 at age 41 of cancer.
He was a young, blind guitar player who played with the guitar laying flat in his lap. I had heard some of his stuff and you’d think he played just like anybody else.

I had his CD long before I ever saw him in the movie Road House, when his career really took off.

Hanging out at Panera

March 03, 2008 By: Mark Category: Can't be categorized

Hanging out at Panera Bread killing time while Amber is getting her ass kicked at rugby warm-up. (More on this later)

I love hanging out in these places and listening to what other people are doing. There’s a couple of foreign looking guys, each on their cell phones and laptops. I think they are talking about automotive seating design but not sure. They’re also chatting about stuff on the home front. One of the the guys reminds me of Jeff Goldblum.

Back to Amber… I can’t figure out why the heck she wants to try rugby. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great she’s trying to do something physical. It’s a pain just to get her to take care of the litter box and the dirty dishes. She gets tired just going to school so this rugby thing should give her a shock.

Chrysler’s Lasorda gets a big bonus.

March 03, 2008 By: Mark Category: News clips

Tom Lasorda, the President and Vice-Chairman gets a $15.7 million bonus for doing the deal with Cerberus to get the Chrysler group out from under Daimler.

In all he has a bonus (or compensation package) for 2007 of $20.7 million.

What the hell does he do with all of that? What expertise does somebody have that commands these types of bonuses?

Today is about 53 deg F in Detroit. Pittsburgh is 65 deg F.

No global warming though…. just the goofy weather.
